Why You Should Avoid Logo Maker Sites & Why They Can Hurt Your Business
Imagine you've finally made the plunge, you're starting a new company and its damn exciting. You have great plans for your new brand and need a logo, so you decide to go and do it yourself on an online platform. Why wouldn't you?! They're cheap or sometimes free, look pretty decent and that's that - you've got a logo sorted. So why is this a bad for you?
Let's not get it twisted, the day you made the decision to start a business was because of a few reasons. One was probably because you're over your current job and hate what you're currently doing. Another could be you wanna make money, which is funny because most people are embarrassed to say " I wanna do what I love and make money doing it!" So what's the next step? You need a logo right? What a better way to get one than a do it yourself platform where you can make one for absolutely nothing!
The thing most brand owners forget is that unless you're the new Apple or Nike - chances are you aren't gonna sell much right away. It's just a fact, the quicker you get use to that statement the quicker you'll swing into the right mindset to do what needs to be done - build brand awareness. "What's this gotta do with a logo? I thought a brand was more than a logo?"
You're spot on, it is! Guess what tho? It's starts with that first impression. Your logo is (if done by a professional) a simple, memorable mark that will identify as YOU and YOU alone. You see, for people to invest their trust (dollars) in you, they need to know who you're and know what you're all about. The reason you SHOULDN'T ever get on a logo generator platform is quite a simple one.
If you indeed are smart about building brand awareness and do all the right things, market your brand properly and build a tribe of people who absolutely adore your product - they will always remember you! And guess what mark they'll associate you with? You guessed it! They'll always remember you with a mark that's built completely from random parts.
Logo generator platforms don't know who you're and because you're selecting premade designs, you get slumped in a pile with a bunch of other people who might have picked a similar combination to you. That's a huge problem for a few reasons. Your hard work in building awareness has made people remember a logo that has nothing to do with you and now, after people have identified you with that logo - you're gonna wanna change it.
This sucks because once the new logo is up, that trust has to be re-established, you loose brand equity and kind of start from scratch. Of course, if you're in this position, the better thing to do is and will always be get a professional to do it - so just because you've built awareness with a shit logo doesn't mean you don't change it. Bite the bullet and get after it.
If you're just starting out however, the safest bet is to spend your money wisely on someone who knows their stuff and will give you the foundations to start a brand that is remembered as sticking to their logo since day one.
